There were deleted scenes in Reanimator that showed Herbert West surviving, also, apparently, he was using his reagent on himself to stay awake. Meaning his reagent does deter death, but only in the living. Alas, _Re-Generator_ is not the name of the series.

Reanimator is a perfect example of a protagonist who isn't the hero. Dan is absolutely not the main character, he is the well-meaning but easily swayed partner. Herbert West is the ultimate mad scientist; brilliant, egotistical, condescending, and prone to startling errors in judgement. Here's the thing, Herbert's reagent *works.* He has conquered death! It's the aftermath of coming back to life that's giving him issues. But he's convinced he can get passed that with sufficient trial & error. Hence Herbert West's "ah, I see you have chosen LIFE" mindset for every corpse he comes across allows him endless scenarios to figure out what works best. You've gotta admire his persistence & refusal to give up 😂

What’s your obsession with race anyway? If you watched the movie from a people’s with struggles perspective who are dealing with a tribe of cannibals without distinguishing or associating anyone with a particular group or ethnicity maybe you could actually enjoy the film. I mean, isn’t that the point of a movie anyway? Put yourself in the shoes of the protagonist there? Maybe if the movie was centered in the troglodytes perspective would be more plausible to you but unfortunately that’s less entertaining and much less profitable, so accept it and move on.

Watched it based on this review and it was amazing, loved it, Gisigu is a legend, Lysol is an irredeemable monster and I want to see many more films like this. Another film by a First Nations writer/director and studio I saw (apologies if that isn't the right term? I'm from the UK (BOOOO, HISS, GET AWAY FROM ME!! I hear you say, and that's very fair)) was called Slash Back; bit like this but a bit more light-hearted in a way, about three badass girls who become Alien hunters. I have found that I love films from these sorts of studios; they just feel like they have more heart than a generic Wan-Franchise wet-fart of a movie, they have a STORY to tell and I'm here for it.

The racism was hardly my biggest problem with this movie. I had NO clue I was not just watching a western when I just watched the damn thing on Netflix. I'd never heard of it before. Also, Magic Spoon is the most ridiculously overpriced cereal I have ever seen! It's ridiculous.

SPACE BIOLOGIST FACTS! You mention that a space biologist is a useless job but I've met one in real life while studying palaeontology: basically the people in charge of Mars rovers are all space experts and robot experts but NOT microbiologists, so Astrobiology is a sub-discipline of biology to work out what a Martian microbe would look like and, more usually, prove that every squiggle on a rock surface is NOT secretly an alien microbe fossil. Microscopic fossils exist, but are difficult to find due to being tiny and delicate. There are also non-organic processes that produce similar shapes in rocks. So when the Mars rover takes a photo of a rock with lots of circular impressions, it is a space-biologist's job to replicate those impressions in a lab with non-organic means: what chemicals may leave a bacteria-shaped bubble upon reacting? What ways may the stones scrape together to leave the idea of worms and wiggly things? Astrobiology is chemistry, geology and microbiology rolled into one, and you have to work fast before some hotshot says "NASA HAS FOUND PROOF OF LIFE ON MARS!" (which journalists are always trying to do), so while astrobiology isn't saving any lives, it is a real job that people in the real world do :)
